The 'A' side stands as one of my first radio memories and a classic slice of soul. Ironically it wasn't until I was in my twenties that I found a copy of the parent LP, let alone learned the title track wasn't a love song to a woman, rather a tribute to Hebb's older brother Hal who was killed in a mugging the day after John F. Kennedy's assassination. It's simply a soul classic. The rest of the album is almost as good.
Perhaps because I've heard the hit so many times (I know it note for note), I find the rockin' flip side to be almost as good.
