It didn't do much commercially, but 'See My Friends' is stunning on at least two counts - 1.) it's one of the first pop tunes to openly incorporate Indian influences in the form of a distinctive droning sound (and you though George Harrison got there first), and 2.) It's got a then-daring lyric that supposedly dealt with the off-limits subject of male bonding. I've also read that the song was inspired by the untimely death of Ray and Dave's sister, with the lyrics reflecting back on her wake.
The flip side's not as immediately stunning, but serves as another great Kinks rocker.
