I'm a big Edwin Starr fan, but have to admit I wasn't even aware of his work for Granite. My loss since these two tracks capture the man at his prime. The crushing 'A" side is every bit as good as his earlier stuff on Ric Tic or Gordy. The flip side is almost as good, though the key is a little outside of his normal range (he gets a little dhrill reaching for the high notes) and the elaborate synth-driven arrangement threatens to overwhelm his performance. Unfortunately, by 1975 his brand of classic soul had been all but abandoned by the buying public.
