David Lowrey and Camper Van Beethoven have always been kind of a mystery to me.  I certainly don't begrudge their successes, but by the same token I've never known when they been playing it serious, or simply goofing.  Witness the 1986 UK EP "Bowling for Columbine".  The title track provided the band with an unexpected college radio hit and enjoyed further recognition when Michael Moore used it in his film "Bowling for Columbine".  Powered by Lowrey's howling voice and a some nice jangle rock moves, the songs quite commercial, but what the hell's the lyric about?  The five side two tracks weren't quite as commercial, but served to showcase the band's eccentric side (the group-penned 'Cowboy from Hollywood' and the klezmer instrumental 'Epigram').
