Following a pair of albums with the Vancouver, British Columbia-based Sweeny Todd, the mid-1970s saw singer Nick Gilder relocated to Los Angeles in pursuit of a solo career.

With the earlier Sweeny Todd having enjoyed a significant Canadian hit with the track 'Roxy Roller', the solo Gilder had little trouble scoring a contract with Chrysalis Records.  Largely co-produced by Gilder and Peter Sullivan, 1977's "You Know Who You Are" is an interesting mixture of Sweeny Todd's glam moves and more commercial top-40ish moves.  Gilder's falsetto is one of those voices that's gonna strike some folks as quite attractive (imagine Geddy Lee's younger brother), or simply irritate the crap out of 'em.  (I tend to lean to the latter category.)  Luckily what saves the album is the music.  To my ears tracks such as 'All Across The Nation (The Wheels are Rolling', 'Backstreet Noise' and ''Rated 'X' are easily as good as anything out of the Chinn-Chapman school of pop-rock (I'm talking about bands such as Slade, The Sweet and Suzi Quatro).  A wonderful mix of glam grit and pop smarts, virtually any one of these ten songs would have been a dandy single.  Unfortunately that didn't happen.  Well, technically that isn't a true statement since  the American release included two Sweeny Todd songs - the earlier hit 'Roxy Roller' and 'Tantalize'.
