Released by the newly formed Geffen Records, 1982's "All of a Sudden" found John Hiatt continuing his corporate wanderings.  I'll be honest and admit this one doesn't do much for me.  At least part of the blame goes to producer Tony Visconti for burying the set in what was a then-cutting edge new wave sheen.  Surrounding Hiatt with banks of synthesizers and treated vocals (or are my ears playing tricks on me) just doesn't do Hiatt's strengths justice.   Hiatt also has to accept some of the blame, having turned in a collection that only had a couple of redeeming offerings - the funny 'I Look for Love', the top-40ish 'Forever Yours' and 'Doll Hospital'.  Unfortunately, too much of the set sounds like second rate Squeeze ('V'), or perhaps sub-par Elvis Costello ('This Secret Life').  Most folks can probably live without this one ...
