Title: Music - Music
Country/State: Kenner, Louisiana

GEMM catalog ID: 4316
Given he's been recording since the mid-1950s, it stands to reason that Lloyd Price has an extensive and convoluted recording catalog. A shrewd businessman, he's started and abandoned a score of labels, making it difficult to track everything he's written and recorded. 1978's "Music - Music" is one of those mystery releases.
By the early 1970s Price had moved to Africa and largely abandoned the music business in favor of pursuing various outside interests, including sports promotion (working with Don King he helped promote several of Muhammed Ali's fights). Against that backdrop he somehow found time to record this 1978 set in Northern Virginia !!! Musically this set isn't anything spectacular. Lloyd's voice remains in great form, but most of the material sounds rather haphazard and uninspired. Maybe it's just my overactive imagination, but full of tales of lost love and marital breakdown ('What Did You Do with My Love' and 'Mr. & Mrs. Untrue'), the set almost sounds like a concept piece built on a dying marriage. Interestingly it comes two years before Marvin Gaye's critically acclaimed "Here My Dear". Standout track - 'Love Music' which The O'Jays subsequently covered enjoying a massive pop and soul hit.
