Normally full-blown progressive tracts don't do a great deal for us, but 1972's "Where? (In Conclusion)" is one of those few exceptions ...

So what do we know 'bout this outfit?  Well, they were from New York and the band's line-up consisted of brothers John (sax and woodwinds) and Ralph  (vocals and guitar) DeMartino, bassist Michael Rodriguez and drummer Steeler (guess he couldn't afford a surname).  Produced by Ron Terry (who also co-wrote much of the material), at least to our ears the five track set featured one of the era's more engaging attempts to blend hard rock and progressive moves.  So given the band's progressive leanings, including a  penchant for long compositions (there's even a side long suite - "Aza") and an over-abundance of mellotrons and woodwinds, what makes lifts this set above the norm?  Luckily the band and album sported a couple of saving graces.  The first was that tracks such as "The Want In You" and "Stoned Silence" showed that the DeMartinos and company could actually rock out.  It also helped that Ralph proved to be a pretty good singer (who occasionally reminded us of early Randy Bachman).  He was also a first rate guitarist, who turned in a couple of blazing solos on material such as "The Want In You" and the bluesy "The Mothers Day Song".  An added bonus; even at their most self-engrossed (the instrumental "Odyssey" and the sidelong suite "Aza"), the band never forgot to keep the melodies engaging.  For whatever reason, this appears to be the band's only release, with original copies having become quite rare and sought after.  (This also gets one of our cool cover awards.)
