Yes, the period cover and goofy name would give you the impression this was gonna' be a killer set of British psych.  Well, in the interests of truth in advertising, 1970's "Soft Delights" is better categorized as pop.  Quality pop, but still pop.

Signed by RCA Victor, 1970's "Soft Delights" teamed the 'group' with produced Pete Wickens.  As far as I can tell Tangerine Peel was a real band, but for all intents and purposes by the time this album was released it served as little more than a platform for singer/songwriter Mike Chapman.  Chapman handled lead vocals, keyboards (though no performances were credit) and was listed as having penning all but one of the ten tracks.  Musically the collection's kind of an oddity.  The mix of up-tempo pop and ballads was highly commercial, if not particularly original or inspiring.  The title track was almost bubblgumish (setting the stage for Chapman's work with Nicky Chinn), while keyboard driven ballads like 'Goodnight To the Night', 'What Am I To Do' and 'To Judy' were pretty, but kind of dull.  Far more interesting were the proto-glam rockers like the opener 'Cindy Lou', 'Long Long Ride' (which sounds very American) and 'Jeanie Jeanie Jeanie'.

RCA tapped the album for a pair of singles:

- 1970's 'Thinking of Me' b/w 'Soft Delights (RCA Victor catalog number 1936)

- 1970's 'What Am I To Do' b/w 'Don't Let me Be Misunderstood' (RCA Victor catalog number 2036)
