This late in his recording career it's probably foolish to expect major changes in Clarence Carter's musical attack. Of course anyone who's buying a Clarence Carter album already knows what they're getting. Self-produced, 1990's "Hooked On Love" offered up a fairly standard mixture of blues, country-soul and sly tales of sexual prowess and personal shortcomings ('Grandpa Can't Fly His Kite' and 'I Feel It'). While it may not have been his most original offering, Carter's voice remained in fine form and he was actually quite impressive when dropping some of the goofty tricks on order to play iit straight - check out the wonderful 'Trying To Sleep Tonight' and 'I Can't See Myself.
