It's an overused comment, but the fact of the matter is Marshall Crenshaw is a crimanally overlooked talent ...   Since the mid-'80s he's consistantly released some of the most enjoyable mop-rock most folks have never heard.

Released in 1983, "U.S. Remix" was a five track, 45 rpm, 12" extended play EP).  Only released in the UK, the EP featured a series of three remakes drawn from Crenshaw's second studio set "Field Day".   Crenshaw was supposedly unhappy with producer Steve Lillywhite's work on the album.  In addition to 'Our Town', 'For Her Love' and 'Monday Morning Rock', the EP was rounded out by a live version of 'Little Sister' and an extended 'For Her Love'.  As a proud owner of "Field Day", I can tell you these three tracks do sound different; particularly the drumming.   Is it going to make a major difference to your life?  Doubtful, but it's still fun to hear these alternative versions.

"U.S. Remix" track listing:
(side 1)

1.) Our Town   (Marshall Crenshaw) -

Originally recorded for 1983's "Field Day" album, 'Our Town' was classic Crenshaw with a dazzling folk-rock melody, that instantly recognizable voice, and a chorus that should have sent radio DJs into spasms of glee.   rating: **** stars

2.) For Her Love   (Marshall Crenshaw) -

Another classic Crenshaw with some of his patented yearning added to a gorgeous melody.   Ah, the pain of romance ...   rating: **** stars

3.) Monday Morning Rock   (Marshall Crenshaw) -

Another great slice of pop-rock with a slight Buddy Holly edge.   rating: **** stars

4.) Little Sister   (Schuman - Pomus) -

Recorded live at Ripley's Music Hall for The King Biscuit Flower Hour ...

(side 2)
1.) For Her Love (extended mix)
   (Marshall Crenshaw) -

Great tune, but the extended version didn't add a great deal to the original, or the side one remake.   rating: *** stars
