With the public increasingly recognizing the late Buddy Holly's talents, it was probably only a matter of time before someone attempted to cash-in on the situation via his backing band The Crickets. Sure enough, that moment came in 1973 via the release of
"Remnants". An odd pairing of original Crickets Jerry Allison and Sonny Curtis and English all-stars Rick Grech and Albert Lee, the album was recorded in Nashville with Bob Montgomery producing. Musically the majority of the set bounced between country-influences (Allison's lone original "Decoy Baker" and "Losin' Streak") and more
up-tempo rockabilly ("Find Out Wha's Happening" and "I'm Gonna Ruin Your Health"). Not exactly the year's most original offering, the set actually grows on you if you invest a little time in it. Highlights included the bluesy swamp rocker "Atmore" and Lee's pretty ballad "Rhyme and Time". Needless to say, the LP vanished without a trace (we've only seen two copies in 30 years). In the States the set was released by Mercury (catalog number SRM-1-695). Vertigo had the honors in England. In case anyone cares, our copy's on Vertigo.
1.) Find Out What's Happening (J. Crutchfield) - 4:37 (side 2) 1.) Losin' Streak (Nick Van Maarth) - 2:40
