Album Globe/Album World are among the more interesting and mysterious tax loss record labels nthat appeared in the mid-'70s.  Hiding behind a myriad of different label names including Robert, their cataliog was all over the musical spectrum, including this complete obscurity - this is the only copy I've seen in 30 years of collecting.  

I sure can't tell you much about Deby De Armitt other than she was credited with writing all eleven tracks.  For what it was worth, the photos look like they were shot in someone's home and judging by the front cover photo Ms. De Armitt had some nice bikini tan lines.  

So what did this one sound like?   Most of the album was sensitive singer/songwriter acoustic faire - just De Armitt and an acoustic guitar. Imagine early Joni Mitchell and you'd be in the right aural neighborhood.  De Armitt had a decent voice; occasionally a bit on the shrill side ('Sweet Hello'), but her voice kind of grew on you and judging by tracks like 'I Am Me' and 'Once I Had a Mountain' she had quite a bit of power.  My main problem with this one was that it wasn't any different from the stuff you'd hear any weekend in hundreds, if not thousands of local bars and coffeehouses.  De Armitt had more than her share of talent, but it was buried in a pedestrian mix of young adult angst, tales of personal pain, and half-hearted attempts to make big statements.  My other complaint was that spread over two sides this stuff quickly started to sound the same.  Unless you were really paying attention it was easy to lose track in terms of where one song ended and the next one started.   Definitely not the album you'd want to play to get a party started ...

The title track was a pretty, lyrically depressing acoustic ballad.  The song served as a nice platform for De Armitt's crystal clear, piercing voice.  A pretty apt description for the other eleven songs on the collection.

This one was pretty spare - just De Armitt companied by a strumming acoustic guitar.  Interesting, judging by the lyrics the song title sounded like it should have been 'I Am Free'.

I have no idea if it's the same person but there's a Deby De Armitt who died in Utah in August 2006.
