I bought this at a Salvation Army store having just gone through a Climax Blues Band binge and recognizing Haycock's name.
To be honest, anyone expecting to hear a collection of Climax-styled English blues is going to be massively disappointed by 1988's "Guitar and Son". An all instrumental set, material such as 'Liberty' and 'Dr. Brown I Presume' clearly underscores Haycock's credentials as a rock guitarist. That said, you could easily mistake this for something out of the Steve Morse/Dixie Dregs catalog. While technically stunning, it just doesn't do much for my ears. If I had to pick a couple of highlights I'd go with the Big Country-ish 'The Claymore' and the relatively funky 'Down To Bay Six'.
