Given there are literally thousands of bar bands working the circuit at any specific point in time, it's only natural that some of these outfits manage to record a couple of independent singles, or even an oddball vanity (self-financed) album. That certainly seems to be the case with the Oklahoma-based Here Comes Everybody.
As with so many of these outfits, we can't tell you a great deal about the band - virtually everything we do know comes from the liner notes on their album. So what can we tell you? Band personnel consisted of drummer Chris A. Burns, bassist Hank Hawley, guitarists Jim Jackson and Geff Jung, and singer/keyboardist Vernon James Schubel. We also know their 1974 debut
"Here Comes Everybody" was recorded in Stillwater, Oklahoma. With Schubel responsible for the majority of the material (Jackson contributed one selection), the results were fairly predictable. Material such as "My Own Controls", "You Been Abusin' Me" and "Make a Buck" was competent, but largely anonymous guitar rock. Slightly more interesting (and definitely stranger), was the flip side, side-long suite "Opera: Johnny Got His Ray Gun". Imagine a group of mid-western good old boys who happened to have a David Bowie 8 track in their pickup truck and you'll get a feel for the overall results.
