In terms of talent it's hard to figure out where LaToya Jackson fits in the Jackson clan. Of the girls, younger sister Janet is clearly more talented. Older sister Rebbie hasn't recorded much, but from what I've heard is probably at the bottom of the list. That leaves LaToya in the middle of the group in terms of age and talent.
1986's "Imagination"
is LaToya's fourth studio album and it finds her falling victim to the
scorge of mid-1980s dance music. Largely co-produced and written by
Mike Piccirillo and Gary Goetzman, material such as the title track, 'He's a
Pretender' and 'Baby Sister' found her paired up with state-of-the art dance
tracks. Surrounding her limited voice with banks of synthesizers, syn
drums and anonymous backing vocals it probably sounded pretty good back when
you were shaking your groove thang on a dance floor, but none of it has
dated too well. Probably the funniest thing here is the big ballad
'Love Talk'. Clearly intended as a bump and grind number, LaToya's
little girl voice gives it a creep feel. In case anyone cares, 'He's a
Pretender' b/w 'How Do I Tell Them' was tapped as a single (Private I
catalog number TEZS-405783). 1.) Baby Sister (Mike Piccirillo - Gary Goetzman) - 2.) Weak Spot (Lorrin Bates - Belva Haney - John Bokowski) - 3.) Love Talk (LaToya Jackson - Jhn WIison) - 4.) Boys Got Somethin' Ain't Got (Stehen Geyer - Marvin Morrow) -
(side
2) 2.) One a Night Like This (Mike Piccirillo - Gary Goetzman) - 3.) How Do I Tell The (Mike Piccirillo - Gary Goetzman) - 4.) Imagination (Isidro Ross - Amir Bayyan) -
