Of the original Saturday Night Live cast, the late Gilda Gadner may have been the most versatile and talented - certainly our favorite cast member.
Produced by Lorne Michaels, "Live From New York" captured Radner's post SNL one woman Broadway show. Pulling together what amounts to a greatest hits collection of Radner characters, fans will be pleased to see that all of the favorites are here - Lisa Loopner, Emily Litella and Roseanna Roseannadanna. True, without the accompanying visuals, a couple of the skits lose some of their edge. Still, there's enough here to make the album worth hearing. Personnel highlights include Radner's Candy Slick Patti Smith parody "If You Look Close/Gimme Mick", the hysterically obscene "Let's Talk Dirty To the Animals" and the audience sing along to "The Way We Were".
