Geez, this album is bizarre. For a guy best known for his blues chops, 1979's cleverly-titled "The Edgar Winter Album" is a major shocker. Clearly reflecting the influence of having been recorded at Phildadelphia International's famed Sigma Studios, original material such as 'It's Your Life To Live', 'Above And Beyond' and 'Take It The Way It Is' offers up a blatant dance-oriented beat. Mind you, Winter's performances aren't bad ... just unexpectedly different. Getting accustomed to Edgar Winter the disco artist ('Make It Last') simply takes a little getting use to. Guess he may have been listening to too much David Bowie ... Elsewhere, the album included a remake of Winter's 'Dying To Live'. This version was okay, if slightly over-orchestrated.
